Airports

Research focused on airport operations, planning and infrastructure.

Research in the field of airports is currently focused on two main directions. The first direction is the optimisation and enhancement of the use of available airport resources, which include in particular airport infrastructure, airport ground equipment and human resources. This area also includes projects leading to a higher level of automation in airport operations. The other main focus is the digital transformation and integration of airports into the pan-European ATM network under the Digital European Sky concept and the SESAR programme. All of this can be seen as a response to the ever-increasing demand for air transport, as airspace and airport capacity is currently limited. The airports research team is involved in these challenges together with partners across Czech aviation and in cooperation with EUROCONTROL.

Digital airport model for increasing safety and efficiency of air traffic

The aim of the project is to create a system for the improvement of air traffic effectiveness and safety at the airport movement area. The simulation of the ATC at the airport will be created. The pilot implementation will be done for the Václav Havel Airport Prague. The system will enable realistic modeling of the aircraft movements and model of air traffic controllers’ cognitive behavior. The airport's operational needs will be analyzed, and simulation scenarios will be proposed. Using the scenarios, the “what-if” studies will be performed, e.g., configurations, procedures, and activities. The output of the project will be a digital model of the airport suitable for other airport operators and ANSPs, enabling air traffic optimization and analysis of the future development of the airport.

Research on factors affecting airport traffic performance based on developed predictive model

Cílem projektu je vyvinout prediktivní model, který zvýší předvídatelnost pohybů letadel v taktické fázi provozu na základě provozní situace a propustnosti pohybové plochy letiště a přesnost stanovení času odletu letadel. Pro dosažení maximální úrovně shody s reálným systémem bude model zahrnovat podstatné rozhodovací procesy ovlivňující pojíždění a odbavení letadla (včetně řízení letového provozu a rozhodování posádky letadla). Propojením odborníků z univerzity a praxe, se zkušenostmi v oblasti letištního provozu, programování a simulačních analýz, a s využitím reálných dat bude vytvořen prototypový nástroj použitelný v reálném letištním provozu.
